Our church weekend was the best we have had for years. The location, the facilities and the staff were outstanding. We can't wait to come back next year.

Grief..."Walking through Winter"

(ACT637)

Tuesday 8th February 4.00pm – Friday 11th February 10am

Led By Katherine Gantlett

Who is God? Who am I? What’s the meaning and purpose of life and, in particular, my life? These are all questions we find ourselves asking when faced with winter seasons of loss in our lives. Drawing on personal experience, the deep theological wisdom of those that have gone before us and creative workshops, during this retreat, we will journey together to explore how we can learn to walk through winter seasons with authenticity, faith and hope. We will combine teaching with a range of embodied practices, such as walking the grounds of Ashburnham to allow God to speak through nature, creating a labyrinth, and art workshops. In the art workshops, we’ll use various techniques and mixed media, including painting, collage and stencilling, to explore the colours and textures of winter. In an exercise of deep looking, we will respond creatively to the intricacies that the stripping back of winter reveals. No artistic ability or experience will be necessary. We’ll also be putting into practice the Danish art of Hygge. So expect lots of cake, candles, and crackling fires with plenty of time to get cosy, rest and reflect. Informal spiritual accompaniment will also be available.

Katherine is married to Jon, an organic farmer in Oxfordshire, and they have a young son Charlie. For several years she studied with and worked for Westminster Theological Centre (WTC). She has recently published a book called Walking Through Winter, which unpacks how with God, we can face and walk through seasons of loss.
