Individual Prayer Retreats

We offer a wide variety of guided retreats, day events or holidays available for booking by individuals or groups of friends who wish to come to Ashburnham Place for a time of spiritual growth or relaxation.

Alternatively, you may wish to come on a personal prayer retreat to spend some time alone with God, or to join our team on our journey towards Continuous Prayer in the Prayer Centre. For nearly 40 years the former coach house and stable buildings of the main house have been a focus for people to gather and pray. Over the years this has taken different forms and today we welcome residential guests on personal retreats as well as day visitors from the local area.

There are six small individual Prayer Rooms in the Prayer Centre which are normally available for use on a first-come-first-served basis. These Prayer Rooms are open 24 hours a day to residential guests.

In addition, there is a fragrant Prayer Garden within the Victorian walled garden which offers a peaceful place to pray. There are also two Prayer Houses situated beside the lake. Please click here for further information.

Accommodation:

En-suite accommodation is normally available in Patmos Lodge for individuals on a personal prayer retreat. This is situated a short walk from the Prayer Centre across the fountained-courtyard. Patmos Lodge opened in 2008 and offers18 twin or double-bedded rooms with en-suite shower facilities.

Meals:

Patmos Lodge accommodation is available on a Bed & Breakfast, Half Board or Full Board basis, or you may wish to fast during your stay.
All meals must be booked in advance and are served in the main conference centre, which is a 170 metre walk from the Prayer Centre or Patmos Lodge.
Medically essential diets can be catered for if booked in advance; please provide full details at the time of booking.
We regret there are no self-catering facilities.

Arrival and departure:

Bedrooms are available after 2.30pm on your day of arrival.
From Sunday - Thursday, residential guests are welcome to arrive any time between 8.30am and 6.45pm when Reception is open. Please register at Reception and we are happy to store your luggage there whilst you use the Prayer Rooms, wait in the Guest Lounge or walk in the Grounds until your bedroom is ready.
On Fridays and Saturdays our Reception hours are extended, and our residential guests are welcome to arrive any time between 8.30am and 9.45pm.
If, in exceptional circumstances you are delayed, please call Reception on 01424 892244 before it closes to make arrangements for your key to be left somewhere safe and to get the gate code, otherwise you won't be able to get in! Please do not call the Bookings Office out of hours.
Please note that the Front Gates are automatically locked overnight and no staff are on duty to let you in.
Guests are required to vacate their bedrooms by 10.00am on the day of departure, although you are welcome to continue to use the Prayer Centre facilities or walk in the Grounds after vacating the accommodation. We kindly ask you to collect your luggage and leave the premises before 7pm.
