Art, Poetry, Creative Writing, Photography & Pottery
Monday 2nd October 4:30pm – Friday 6th October 9:30am

You may be thinking ... ‘creativity, you either have it or you don’t’

It can be assumed creative ability is determined by genes inherited from parents, or by learning techniques and skills, or by being right or left-brained. however, whilst these can add seasoning to what is created, they are not the only key to releasing our ability to be creative.

Creativity is part of our dna which runs deep through our veins. We are all born with a divine inspired drive to create and have the potential to be creative, whether we are aware of it or not!

The challenge is to ...
lay down any pre-conceived ideas and expectations and just go for it! there will be no ‘creative rule book’ to follow, and no-one to criticise or judge your creations.

MORE ABOUT THE FACILITATORS.

Our facilitators, just like all of us, they are on a personal journey to release, express and develop their inner creativity. they are not all “experts”, they are not there to instruct you, or to judge or criticise your creations. They are simply there to encourage, support and cheer you on as you discover or unleash or develop your inner creativity for yourself.

Creative spaces - designed to help you discover, explore and develop your unique creative gift.

FINDING THE WORDS - LOUISA ASPDEN (Creative Writing)
Louisa is a writer/counsellor who has a fundamental belief in the healing power of creativity.  She has had one book published – 'Help! I've Got an Alarm Bell Going Off in my Head!’ written to help children with anxiety.  She says – “this is more of a text book but I have lots more to say about my own life and themes that are common to humanity. We all have a story and I want to support others to tell theirs”.  Louisa has run retreats and creative groups and it is her aim to inspire others to find ways to express themselves.

POETIC THOUGHT - JIM PAYNE AND SHARON JENKINS (Poetry)
Jim Payne gardener and recognised poet left school and first started Market Garden work in Kent. He has managed and cared for many estates including Lord Vestey, Lady Violet Kingscote and Sir Julian Watson. He held position of head gardener at Magdalen College Oxford. He has now been with Ashburnham Place for 10 years as a Horticulturist and Creative Engagement Consultant. He is known for writing poetry on the back of cereal boxes and has a passion for all things creative.

ALTERNATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY - TOM SERRATTI (Photography)
Tom is a Finland-based graphic designer from Brazil. When making art, Tom likes to get his hands dirty. Nature and handiwork play an important role in his art, often seen in his hand bound books, pattern designs and alternative photography, where every artwork is one-of-a-kind.

LINES AND SENSES AND BLIND CONTOUR DRAWING - VIV WALKINGTON AND SHARON GULLIVER (Crafts)
Sharon has lived and worked in the Battle area for most of her life.  She is a wife and mother who has worked with children in a variety of settings.  Over the years she has enjoyed creative expression particularly through natural objects.  Working with children has developed her awareness of our God-given ability to “create” and find real delight in the process as much as the ‘finished product’ – (eg just consider children and their junk-glueing models!!).  As a Christian and primary school teacher she has felt privileged to aid children’s understanding of their intrinsic uniqueness as a creation of God.

VIV WALKINGTON (Art)
Sussex born Viv Walkington has lived in St. Leonards for 21years. Primarily a watercolour and mixed media Artist living with illness, she has seen her own creative journey find new and surprising ways of expression. As a Christian she finds sharing, supporting, praying for and encouraging others to release their own creativity, incredibly rewarding, enjoying seeing others explore their own creative nature and thus express their unique God Created soul.

IMPRESSIONS, PRINT AND PATTERN - MARGO MILLS (Crafts)
Margo lives in Battle East Sussex and together with her husband Clive voluntarily co-ordinate the Friends of Ashburnham Place. She has been a Christian for over 30 years and has been on a personal journey to discover, unlock and express her God given creativity. She has had to face the challenge of believing she lacks ability and skills and to lay aside her unrealistic expectations to create something that she considers perfect and good enough. She has experience in working with various mediums such as clay, water colour, paint, ink and textiles. Her heart and passion is to continue to release more of God’s creativity in everything she does and if she can help others to do the same this is an extra blessing.

CANVAS AND PAINTS - GRAHAM HUDSON (Art)
Manchester born visual artist Graham Hudson, has his studio based at the Manchester charity, Mustard Tree, where he works as Creative Projects Manager. His professional commissions include works for The Bank of New York, John Lewis, Manchester United Football Club and the Archbishop of York John Sentamu. During his time at Mustard Tree, Graham has contributed to a wide range of community art projects, including travelling to Mexico in 2010 to work with children from deprived communities. He has also worked with Manchester Royal Infirmary with patients of Alzheimer’s and dementia, as well as on a growing number of art projects in schools in the Greater Manchester area.

Our church weekend was the best we have had for years. The location, the facilities and the staff were outstanding. We can't wait to come back next year.
