Most Christians love the book of Psalms, and many will have their favourite passages, but often we are quite selective in what we read. This retreat will open us up to the whole range of the songs of faith contained in the book of Psalms, so that we can explore the full spectrum of emotions and circumstances which they reflect - songs of exuberant worship and cries of anguished pain; moments of awesome wonder and explosions of unconcealed rage; searching questions of doubt or darkness and heartfelt responses of faith and trust. As we consider the deeper places where our faith journey takes us, we will find that God is calling us into a deeper relationship with himself, a relationship full of honesty, faith and full surrender.
There will be times of teaching, reflective worship, and the opportunity for personal quiet.

'A Pathway Through Midlife' with Tony Horsfall:

It has been said that midlife is potentially the most spiritual phase of life for both men and women. It is a time for many of deep soul searching when we evaluate our lives and prepare ourselves for the second half of life. Many questions naturally arise. Is my life what I thought it would be? Do I want to continue to live in this way? Does God have something more for me? Why do I have so many questions about my faith? Am I losing my way?
Midlife can occur anywhere from 35 to 65, and most of us need some outside help in navigating the choppy waters of this crucial life stage. This seminar will help you to understand the issues involved, consider what the Bible has to say, and provide some space for you to reflect on your journey. It will be suitable for anyone who wants to honestly assess what is going on in their lives.

'Behold my Servant' with Tony Horsfall:

This retreat will focus on the Servant Song found in Isaiah 42. Here we have a portrait of Christ as the true servant of God, providing us with a pattern for our own servanthood. By looking at the example of Jesus, we find inspiration for a life of service and ministry. Often in the demands of daily life we can lose the joy of what we are doing. Taking time out to be with God and to meditate on his word will bring renewal and fresh motivation. We will consider such aspects as: the importance of our identity and calling; the development of our character and growth in confidence; being attentive to God and responding with obedience. There will be times of teaching, reflective worship,and the opportunity for personal quiet.

'Devotional Break' with Jennifer Rees Larcombe & Charles and Lynne Earwicker:

Jennifer Rees Larcombe is a widely known speaker and author and a great friend of Ashburnham Place, its staff and many of our guests. Jen's powerful yet gentle ministry has impacted the lives of thousands over the years and we are so pleased to be welcoming her back again. Jen heads up the ministry of "Beauty for Ashes" .
For this special autumn break Jennifer, along with Charles and Lynne our regular Holiday Break hosts, will offer a relaxed programme of activities interspersed with worship and inspirational teaching. With an emphasis on rest and refreshment, guests will be able to enjoy warm fellowship and a break from the demands of their everyday lives as well as deepening their personal walk with God.
